#2 ACTION shots

Before you even view my dismal offerings this week, allow me to say that this is my LEAST favorite topic....and rightly so, since I'm not good at it at all!! I think I do a fair job of getting 'stop' action shots....but to be able to show the action or movement is just not something I can grasp on my camera settings. I'm happy to take your suggestions.....and ideas for improvement here!!!

#1 bicyclers on the  causeway. Obviously they are moving....but I really haven't shown "action" in the shot.  I thought I was shooting in shutter priority, but the Properties says this is aperature priority. I don't get that. F 4.0 - 1/4000 sec - ISO 200

#2 Fountain with water movement. On this one, I remembered lessons from last year and took several pictures for myself in aperature priority and then shutter priority. Even I can see the difference in what I took using water movement.
F 25 - 1/6 sec - ISO 200

#3 Swing swinging. The left swing is moving....the right swing is still. I think you can tell that....but once again, a dismal 'action' shot.
F20 - 1/5 sec - ISO 200 shutter priority

#4. Bee gathering nectar. LOL, while at the park I got distracted by something I LIKE to shoot.....so I took this one. I guess is MIGHT show some action, then again, maybe not really!!!
F 8 - 1/100 sec - ISO 200  shutter priority

#5. Wipers moving.  F11 - 1/40 sec - ISO 200 shutter priority

#6. Folks on the ball field. I just don't know how to chose settings to get a clearer picture of the boy running and yet not have it just turn out to be a stop-action picture. The whole thing is just a big blur!
F 22 - 1/30 sec - ISO 200 shutter priority

  2. Good grief, I tried to correct a typo and deleted my entire post. Anyway, I like #6 the best for composition and the feel of action. I think the photo is a bit out of focus, but don't know if that is the look you were going for. Was this photo cropped in a lot?

  3. HI Lynn, You did a great job with #2, the fountain. I tried to do water, but just couldn't get it to work. I really like the bee in the flower!. Might not show action, but a great shot none the less.

  5. Hey Lynn, My thoughts.
#1 obviously something went wrong-!/4000 will stop a humming bird wing otherwise the bike wheels would have been blurred at 1/5 sec
#2 worked just the way it should--the water is moving up and down to the lens and the camera is still
#3 would have worked like the water but should be going left to right-I think the swing was at it's high point almost stopped anyway
#4 great shot and composition as always
#5 wipers were going left to right- it worked
#6 the boy is showing movement but could have been clear if you moved the camera with him and you were perpendicular to him so he was going right to left---all around him would have been blurred That's how I did the cars.

  6. some very good pictures Lynn, I really liked thew swing...having one swing coming at the cameras really gives a nice effect....I alos really liked the water shot...the bicycles should have maybe been shot with a shutter around 1/60 and it probably would have shown more of the movement.....but great pics never the less.......
